This session will present a summary of relevant and recent research on SEL and its use in the elementary classroom as well as various strategies that can be seamlessly incorporated into various parts of the curriculum you are already required to teach. A key focus will be on using carefully selected picture books and follow-up activities (including reflections, responses, check-ins, and discussions). Attendees will have the opportunity to review and try out some materials/activities, engage in meaningful discussions about how to support the diverse needs of their students best and share ideas based on their varying settings, programs, and methods. They will walk away with book titles and ideas to use in their classrooms/settings on Monday!
