This is a workshop by an exhibitor.
BC SPCA education programs help students develop core competencies such as empathy, critical thinking skills and social awareness which encourage pro-social behavior. Studies show that kids who have high levels of empathy are less likely to be aggressive towards others, are more tolerant of differences, and are better equipped to deal with emotional challenges. In this session, attendees will be introduced to Humane Education, a field of study that draws connections between human rights, animal protection and environmental sustainability. They will then identify ways to engage their students in animal related topics allowing them to explore broader social issues. Educators will leave with free materials to implement into their classrooms and a glimpse into BC SPCA Humane Education presentations and cross-curricular programs. All of which are designed to complement the BC curriculum, with opportunities for students to engage in inquiry projects and take action for animals. The workshop is designed to be interactive with discussions and hands-on activities using animal themes to initiate the development of positive relationships with animals, peers, adults and the environment.
