Name
The Science of Language Learning - What Teachers Need to Know
Description

This presentation will outline how successful language learning happens in a child's life. Attendees will discover the answers to the following questions: 1) What is unique about the way that children acquire a first language, and how is it different from animal communication, AI-based language, and second language acquisition ? 2) When does child language learning begin and what are the critical periods for language learning? 3) Who are the people that an ideal language development community relies on? 4) Where are the spaces that language learning occurs most successfully and what are the 7Rs of language-rich routines? 5) How can home, school, and outside contexts be transformed into language-rich environments? 6) Why is mature language production so vital to a child's social, academic, and future vocational success? 7) Which ways do you want to implement these principles in your classroom or other contexts? Each of these vital questions will be explored, and attendees will be invited to share their own experiences, and to envision a transformation of classrooms into language-rich environments, and to marvel at the ability that God has given humans for language.
