Tim Van Hemert is a dedicated educator with a deep passion for fostering early creativity and foundational making skills. With 26 years of teaching experience at Langley Christian Elementary School, Tim has spent his career creating engaging, student-centered learning environments that encourage curiosity and hands-on exploration.

For the past five years, Tim has spearheaded the school's elementary ADST program, teaching the curriculum to all 26 Kindergarten through Grade 5 classes. Managing a hands-on program of this scale has given him unique insight into adapting design thinking, practical skills, and tool safety for young, diverse learners, establishing a strong school-wide culture of making.

Tim is deeply motivated by the joy students experience when working with their hands. His instruction focuses on guiding young learners as they build confidence, solve problems, and discover the creative potential of building and designing. He knows that sparking this interest early lays the crucial groundwork for future success in upper-level trades and technology classes.

As a co-leader of this workshop, Tim brings an essential elementary perspective to ADST education. He is excited to share practical strategies, scalable project ideas, and insights on how to build a thriving, hands-on program that equips young students with a lifelong love of making.
